Ki yoga is a Japanese style, meridian based yoga - gets the body functioning. We work on different aspects of the body/mind/emotions depending on the season. It is a fusion between the teaching style of masahiro Oki, a Japanese yoga master and Shizuto Masunaga, the founder of modern Zen Shiatsu.
Activating accupuncture meridians (traditional and Masunaga extensions) by stimulating different areas of the body through movement and breath. Through this yoga we can bring energy and balance to the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Ki yoga is seasonal, for example in the wintertime we seek to bring energy (or ki) to support the kidney and urinary bladder meridians. Physically we strengthen the lower abdominal muscles, the lower back, also lengthen through the spine from head to sacrum (tail) and down through the hamstrings (the back of the legs). Mentally, we think about setting goals and standing tall. Emotionally working on feeling secure and motivated. spiritally the concepts are 'i am' and 'i will'.
In the spring, we support the liver and gall bladder meridians. Work on flexibility, joint mobility, eyes, softening shoulders and the sides of the body. Mentally balanced in this season we express calm, sound judgement. Looking forward with purpose.
Parts of this class you might find unique are 'do-in' (tapping), correctives (balancing weaker and stronger sides of the body), partner work and massage. Through out the year we support the lower back and lungs, to keep us strong and optomistic. it fun, fairly dynamic and great for your body. Please don't think you need to be flexible to come to yoga - it's why you come - to get bendy! Develop your strength, vitality and flexibility.
Class held at 6.30-7.30am, Saturdays at Henderson Park Hall, Adamstown
